Andrew Muse, a former pro snowboarder turned adventure photographer, spends most of his time on the road with his 2-year-old golden retriever, Kicker. Beside’s being Insta-famous, Kicker also stars in Muse’s Youtube series called Tiny Home Adventure. “We took a badass van to Alaska for several months and did some crazy things,” Muse says. “It’s Kicker’s story, from being a little puppy learning how to handle this van life to becoming a badass adventure dog.”

Here, Muse details the essential pet gear in his van, from the safest climbing harness to the best trail treats.

Most people overlook quality dog snacks on the trail. You bring a Clif bar for yourself when you’re hiking or skiing, so why not something for your dog, too? Zuke’s snacks are nutritious and packed with calories to sustain long adventures.

Atlas Perfect Collar ($28)

I trained Kicker to be good off leash, but in some situations I do need to rope him up. Then this collar, made from two pieces of climbing rope, comes in handy. I can flip up the folded half and use it as a mini leash.

This pack has an adjustable dog harness and removable saddle bags. When we go camping, Kicker carries his own food and water in these bags, while the harness gives me an anchor to haul him up and over boulders or through stream crossings.

Pam Spray ($1)

When we go skiing, Kicker's paws will pick up snow and ice chunks. So I spray his pads down with Pam before we hit the trail in the winter to keep them warmer and ice-free.
