We’re traveling the country for the next year in our 4x4 Sprinter van with our two black labs Atlas and Brady. We’re spreading the word about Atlas Pet Company, camping as many cool spots as we can, and volunteering at local animal shelters along the way.
First Stop: Pacifica, CA
We’re officially on the road! After moving out of our San Francisco apartment, we loaded up the 4x4 Sprinter van we had custom built. Our starting point was in Pacifica, CA.
Camping in Tahoe National Forest
After leaving Pacifica we headed Northeast to Tahoe National Forest. We grilled up some delicious sausages for dinner and hung out with the pups.
Hanging Out at Donner Lake
After spending a night in Tahoe National Forest, we drove to Donner Lake and set up camp. The haziness made for some great photos of Atlas and the pups loved swimming in the lake.
Donner Lake Night 2
Next we set out to camp near Lake Tahoe but after sitting in traffic and not finding any spots, we headed back to Donner Lake, and pulled in next to another sprinter. Turns out he had his built by Outside Van but it was incredibly minimalist and definitely inspirational as we try to pare down our possessions. Woke up to an early morning swim, took the pups for a walk, and headed back to SF to pick up harness prototypes before heading up to Oregon.
Heading to Healdsburg
We grabbed the harness prototypes and drove North to Healdsburg. After a nice hotel breakfast with my brother Solomon at Hotel Trio, we headed out for a day on the road.
The drive through Sonoma County was incredibly smokey from all the fires in Redding, and it only got worse driving through Southern Oregon. The 101 was definitely the more scenic route and included a lot of curvy roads, but it was worth it to see the huge redwood trees and river running through the gorge.
